This is the fifth time Roanoke has won the award.
Cleveland is the only other city to have been honored as many times.
The 10 winners were chosen from 30 finalists.
The other winners include WESTminster, CA-- New Orleans, LA-- Buffalo, NY

Citizens groups have been putting the heat on city officials to develop a
rental inspection program.
Roanoke city council has been working with landlords and citizens since
That's when a house fire killed a woman and four of her grandchildren in
rental property in southeast Roanoke.
Council will vote on the latest proposal tomorrow afternoon.
Gone from the plan are mandatory yearly inspections and 75 dollar fines for
landlords who refuse to cooperate.
Landlords also won't have to submit lists of their property-- and property
inspections will only occur voluntarily.
Neighboring cities Lynchburg and Salem require rental properties to undergo
mandatory yearly inspections.
Father's Day served as the backdrop for a march in Danville this afternoon
focusing on parents' rights.
Nearly 40- men, women and children marched through downtown Danville
carrying signs bearing messages such as "Remember the Children" and "Children
Need Fathers, Too."

Law enforcement officials in another small Virginia town say their community
has been over-run by drugs.
Officials in the Bedford County town of Body Camp say their small town has
become a magnet for drug users in Roanoke and Lynchburg.

Officers chased the 100 pound bear for about 40 minutes before cornering him
in a wooded area on First Street.
Animal Control officers then subdued the bear with a tranquilizer gun.

It's still unclear how a new study will affect the construction of the Lake
The study says Norfolk's water supply could be 18 MILLION gallons per day
larger than previously thought.
North Carolina officials have long argued that South Hampton Roads has
enough water to meet its needs.
It's unclear whether the study will have any impact on North Carolina's
effort to block construction of the Lake Gaston pipeline.
The study was released yesterday-- a day after North Carolina filed legal
documents repeating its argument that South Hampton Roads needs only about
another 16 MILLION gallons of water a day through the year 20-30.
The pipeline would provide up to 60 MILLION gallons.

Rick Mast was having a strong run he worked his way into the top 10 by

pits his car slowed forcing him to the garage area. Rusty finished 31-st.
