The action comes amid pressure from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Federal inspectors found what they called "serious deficiencies" in Valu-jet maintenance and safety procedures.
The F-A-A launched an intensive inspection of ValuJet following the crash in the Florida Everglades that killed 110.
The cut-rate airline says it hopes to resume flying within 30 days.

Two churches in northeast Mississippi are the latest to go up in flames in a series of black church fires in the south.

The fires occured last night in the town of Kossuth (Kuh- SOOTH').
Investigators have been called in to see if the fires were deliberately set.

Meantime, a church was destroyed by fire yesterday morning in Rocky Point, North Carolina.
Authorities have not yet determined if it is arson, but say the blaze fits the pattern of the other black church burnings.

A Roanoke teenager survived a forty foot fall while rock climbing in Giles County yesterday.

16-year old Daniel White was one of a dozen hikers taking part in Camp Bethel's Backpacking Week along the Appalachian Trail.
But he strayed from the path and went rock climbing.
White lost his grip and fell.
He was airlifted to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
But White was released last night.. apparently suffering no significant injuries.

A draft of the Republican report leaked to the news media is laced with strong criticism of First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and her controversial legal work for the failed Madison Guarantee Savings and Loan.
The Democrats are expected to use their report to say that testimony from 159 witnesses turned up no wrongdoing by the President and Mrs. Clinton.
Meantime at the White House, Presidential aide Craig Livingstone, who directed personnel security, has been placed on administrative leave.
The Clinton Administration wants to dampen political fires over the improper collection of more than 400 F-B-I files.

An indictment against suspect Ted Kaczynski is expected to be handed up by a federal grand jury in Sacramento, California.
So far Kacszinski is only charged with possession of bomb components.
Federal sources say he will be indicted for two Sacramento bombings that killed a computer store owner in 19-85 and a forestry association president ten years later.

A man allegedly assaulted a police officer and then hopped on a motorcycle and led police on a 40 minute chase throughout Orange County.
The chase led police over streets, boulevards and freeways as the rider reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.
The chase ended abruptly as the motorcyclist violently broadsided a bus.
Although injured, the rider still struggled with police as they handcuffed him and took him away to the hospital.

The board voted four-to-three last night to allow the state to condemn land for the highway between Blacksburg and Interstate 81.
The five-point-eight-mile highway is billed as one of the first high-tech highways where weather conditions and traffic would be monitored by computer and sensors embedded in the roadway.
Eventually, vehicles could be controlled via computer and sensors.

Jones is accused of shooting to death 24-year old Robert Lewis Allen during a fight on January 21st.

Police have responded to dozens of calls there during the past year and they're looking at ways of curbing the violence.

The pigs were living with a family in Vinton.
But, yesterday a judge ruled that violated a town ordinance.
Town officials said neighbors began to complain about the pigs especially the smell coming from the house.

Yesterday's ruling overturns an earlier one when a judge decided in favor of the family.
But, after that decision last summer, town officials changed the law and brought the family back to court.
The Saunders say they have no plans to appeal the decision and will put the pigs to sleep.
