The Senate today passed a bill that includes a 90 cent increase in the
minimum wage.
The lawmakers rejected Republican efforts which would've exempted new
workers and employees of many small businesses from the increase.
Democrats had wanted just the opposite, trying to push an amendment that
would have meant an increase for even more workers, but that effort also
failed.

The money will allow the city to hire 19 new police officers.
The recruits will patrol as community police officers-- a philosophy which

hike in Danville's property tax rate.
Police Chief Neal Morris believes it's a small price to pay for added police
protection.
