(( Along the carolina coast, a perfect day at the beach..but a storm named bertha threatens to change things for the worse.
Computer-generated predictions put the hurricane with its 110-mile an hour winds somewhere near the southeast coast line sometime friday.
Bertha's toll so far has been relatively light in the virgin islands and puerto rico. buildings lost roofs and trees got tossed onto roads but the most widespread damage was to vactioners. hundreds fled to the mainland.
They were joined by workers who live in the bahamas and who work for an american military contractor. seven hundered of them were airlifted to florida.
They're worried about the homes they left behind.

Yesterday police in riot gear stormed the suspect's apartment which overlooked the school.

A three-year-old boy and a woman were seriously injured in the attack.

Instead he got life without parole.

They say Overby should've received more help when he sought treatment for alcoholism and depression before the killing.

A Roanoke city magistrate openly admitted he signed another magistrate's name to a "drunk-in-public" warrant.
In CIRCUIT court yesterday the JUDGE said that was absolutely wrong, "improper," "a fraud upon the public."
But judge Pat Doherty concluded there was no "criminal intent."
So he found Noel Painter NOT guilty.

Painter had befriended a woman who is routinely picked up for being drunk in public.
Melanie Foutz developed a near-fatal attraction to Painter.

But the big news was that Cal Ripken suffered a broken nose prior to the American League's 6-to-nothing loss.

Ripken was treated and did in fact go on to start the game.
