Officials are on their way to Bedford County to determine if a violent storm that moved through the area was a tornado.
The storm produced high winds and left a path of destruction throughout several neighborhoods.

A man suspected of shooting another man at a Roanoke apartment complex yesterday is still at large.

Witnesses told police that a man apparently entered an apartment at Westwood Village.
He allegedly argued with the victim then shot him.
The suspect then fled the scene, firing more rounds into the air.
One stray bullet was found about a block away.
It apparently hit the window of a room where a young boy was sleeping.
The victim's condition is not being released.

Archeologists and a team of volunteers are finding plenty of artifacts at a site in Rockbridge County.

At this one in Arnold Valley, artifacts are turning up 32 inches deep. Archaeologsts say they don't often find artifacts around here deeper than 18 inches.

28 volunteers have been digging for four weeks as part of the Pass Port in Time project.
The U-S Forest Service has sponsored this archaeological summer field school for ten years.
This year the group hopes to find out how old and how deep this site really is... so far artifacts have been found that date back nine-thousand years.

State police say 35-year old Harry Johnson was driving too fast when his van went off the road on Route 6-35.
Johnson and eleven Job Corps students were injured in the crash and 20 year old Lionel K. Miller was killed.
Authorities say there was NOT enough evidence to support a manslaughter charge against Johnson.
He was cited for failing to maintain control of his vehicle.

A new water supply is on the way for residents in the Grahams Forge area of Wythe County.

Byt the health department declared one unsafe and the other one doesn't produce enough water to accommodate growth.
But now the U-S Department of Agriculture is funding a new water system with an 855-thousand dollar grant, and a 310-thousand dollar low-interest loan.
Officials hope it'll spur residential and commercial growth.

Meanwhile, other parts of the state needing help aren't so lucky.
Governor George Allen is blocking the federal clean-up efforts of seven heavily polluted sites in Virginia.
He is using a little-known new federal law.
It keeps the EPA from designating a Superfund site for clean-up -- unless the Governor of that state requests it.

A contaminated dump site in the town of Saltville would qualify for the Superfund list.
So would parts of the Radford Arsenal.
But Allen says the EPA is slow and bureaucratic.
He's directed Natural Resources Secretary Becky Dunlop to find other ways to clean up the seven sites.
