The search continues for a gunman who shot a man at a Roanoke apartment complex.

Witnesses told police that a man apparently entered an apartment at Westwood Village yesterday.
He allegedly argued with the victim then shot him.
The suspect then fled the scene firing more rounds into the air.
One stray bullet was found about a block away.
It apparently hit the window of a room where a young boy was sleeping.
The victim's condition is not being released.

A C-B-S News, New York Times poll shows President Clinton has a solid lead over Republican Challenger Bob Dole.
The numbers indicate support for the president hasn't been diminished by Whitewater or the recent F-B-I file flap.
Meantime, Dole is proposing a tax cut.
The Republican candidate says he'll unveil an economic policy package by the end of the month that includes steps toward a flatter, fairer tax system.
Dole also announced he has selected New York Representative Susan Molinari to deliver the keynote address at next month's G-O-P convention.
Molinari is a moderate Republican who supports abortion rights.

Meanwhile, another unconfirmed report of a tornado in the city of Bedford.
High winds blew a tree on top of this house on Peaks View Drive, in the northwest side of the city.
Crews had their work cut out for them as they sliced through tree limbs to clear power lines.
The storm hit Bedford at around five.

Police are still looking for a gunman who shot a man at a Roanoke apartment complex yesterday.

Witnesses told police that a man apparently entered an apartment at Westwood Village.
He allegedly argued with the victim then shot him.
The suspect then fled the scene firing more rounds into the air.
One stray bullet was found about a block away.
It apparently hit the window of a room where a young boy was sleeping.
The victim's condition is not being released.

A fatal accident on the Fourth of July results in reckless driving charges against a counselor at the Old Dominion Job Corps Center.

State police say 35-year old Harry Johnson was driving too fast when his van went off the road on Route 635.
Johnson and eleven Job Corps students were injured in the crash and 20-year- old Lionel K. Miller was killed.
Authorities say there was NOT enough evidence to support a manslaughter charge against Johnson.
He was cited for failing to maintain control of his vehicle.

The health department declared one unsafe- The other doesn't produce enough water to accommodate growth.
But now the U-S Department of Agriculture is funding a new water system with an 855-thousand dollar grant, and a 310-thousand dollar low-interest loan.
Officials hope it'll spur residential and commercial growth.

28 volunteers have been digging for four weeks as part of the Pass Port in Time project.
The U-S Forest Service has sponsored this archaeological summer field school for ten years.
This year the group hopes to find out how old and how deep this site really is... so far artifacts have been found that date back nine-thousand years.
