Bedford County authorities are investigating a fire that killed an elderly man early this morning.
The blaze was reported at about 3:15 at a home off of Route 722 in the Body Camp section of the County.
Sheriff's deputies say an 89-year-old man died in the fire, his house was destroyed.
Police believe the wheelchair bound victim was a heavy smoker.
His identity has not been released.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

The two men lived together.
Savino said in an interview this week that Mc-Waters supported him and gave him money but hounded him for sex. In appeals, attorneys for Savino have contended that police badgered him into confessing even though he repeatedly asked for a lawyer.

Stocks will open slightly higher this morning after a roller coaster ride during the busiest day in Wall Street history.

Yesterday's up-and-down day made even the most hardened investor queasy, but the market recovered after a plunge of more than 167 points.
There was record trading volume on the New York exchange of more than 685 million shares.
The old record was set December 15th, 1995.
The badly battered Nasdaq composite, down nearly 50 points, also recovered somewhat, though it still finished lower.

An elderly, wheelchair bound man is dead following a fire in Bedford County early this morning.
The blaze was reported around 3:15 at a home off of Route 722 in the Body Camp section of the County.
Sheriff's deputies say an 89-year-old man died in the fire, his house was destroyed.
His identity has not been released.
Police believe the victim was a heavy smoker.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious.

A man convicted of killing his male lover in Bedford County is scheduled to die tonight by lethal injection.

37-year-old Joseph Savino pleaded guilty to capital murder in the November 1988 killing of Tom Mc-Waters. The two men lived together.
Savino said in an interview this week that Mc-Waters supported him and gave him money but hounded him for sex. In appeals, attorneys for Savino have contended that police badgered him into confessing even though he repeatedly asked for a lawyer.

Two people are recovering from gunshot wounds after being fired upon in a Danville apartment.

It happened at 304- Edmonds Street yesterday afternoon.
Police say 40- year old Phyllis Loney (low-knee) was shot in the right forearm.
27-year old Robert Holland was also injured.
He suffered a gunshot wound to the the lower jaw.
Loney and Holland are from Richmond.
Police say the two were apparently unable to identify the gunman.
They reportedly told police when they opened the door a man and woman entered and someone began shooting.
Police say both injuries were minor.

One man is dead after his pick-up slammed into a dump truck in Giles County yesterday.
Police say the accident occurred when 44-year-old James Austin Johnson of Narrows crossed the center line as he drove west on Route 61.
Johnson died at the scene.

Tipton Ridge Veterinary Clinic has cared for 29 animals authorities seized from the former Solid Rock Kennel in early June.
Nine were put down due to disease and other problems, and only 10 have been adopted.
Veterinarian Randy Vaughn says his staff has been stretched to the limit caring for the animals, and after 45 days in cages the remaining 10 desperately need homes.
