It was jewell who was hailed as a hero after alerting police to the presence of the knapsack that held the deadly pipe bombs. Sources have told CBS news that from the beginning, they've wondered whether he was the one who placed the explosives. Jewell denies it all.
RICHARD JEWELL, SECURITY GUARD:
The Atlanta newspaper says the FBI is comparing jewell's voice to that of the man who made the 911 call warning of the bombing, and looking at surveillance tapes of the park to see if they can spot Jewell that night. Officially, the FBI is not commenting on the news reports, saying only that no one's been arrested. Jewell is not in custody. He drove himself home after being questioned at FBI headquarters.
All this as Centennial Park teems with life again after being reopened to the public. But the idea that the man hailed as a hero may now be the bomber has left people stunned.
