Danville city council has taken steps to purchase the building.
The downtown fire department is expected to move into the building.
Space would also be set aside for the school board central office staff-- which is currently located in the city municipal building.
Mayor Linwood Wright says this will save taxpayers money.

((LINWOOD WRIGHT/DANVILLE MAYOR: WE BELIEVE THAT IF WE HAD TO GO BUILD THIS FROM SCRATCH, BUILDING IT THIS WAY AND GETTING IT RETROFITTED TO REALLY IDEAL SPACE, THE COST WOULD PROBABLY BE IN EXCESS OF FIVE MILLION DOLLARS. WE ARE ESTIMATING THE COST TO DO THIS BETWEEN A MILLION AND A QUARTER AND A MILLION AND A HALF DOLLARS. ))
