(( The single engine Beechcraft went down near McAfee's Knob, killing the pilot, Praveen Bhaskaran (Bah-Sharin).
Investigators say the Vinton man reported a problem shortly before the plane went down.
According to the plane's data recorder, Bhaskaran (Bah-Sharin) transmitted that he was going to attempt to land at the Roanoke Regional Airport using an instrument landing system approach.
While trying to land he radioed to another pilot and said QUOTE: "...we're still about twenty nine hundred, we're starting to see some ground about now."
About 25 seconds later, during the last recorded message, he also radioed "I'll tell what I'm gonna do... I'm gonna do a missed approach..."
The transmission then ended abruptly.
The report says the marker beacon lights were not observed in the instrument panel or on the accident site.
A review of maintenance records revealed they were removed in April and never replaced.
No word yet on whether that was a factor in the crash.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow for Bhaskaran (Bah-Sharin).))

More expectations and more disappointment in the search for the cause of the T-W-A disaster.
A source close to the investigation says an eight-foot piece of roof from the mid-section of the jumbo jet does NOT appear to be significant in figuring out what brought the plane down.
A preliminary inspection shows no blast damage and no trace of chemical residue on the roof section.

Forty-two year old Curren, a registered nurse from Pembroke, Massachusetts, became the 35th person known to have died in Kevorkian's presence on Thursday.
She suffered from chronic fatigue syndrome.
Her husband, Dr. Franklin Curren, was arrested July 26 on a charge of domestic assault and battery.
According to court records, Franklin Curren told police his wife was refusing to take her antidepressant medication and that the couple had been arguing.
Judith Curren, who was bedridden, told officers she was afraid of her husband and that he had yanked the phone away from her and dismantled it.
Court records also indicate she accused her husband of grabbing her arm and hair and pulling her out of bed.
Curren was released on probation and at a pretrial hearing Aug. 6, he was ordered to undergo counseling.
He was set to return to court Oct. 7.
When asked by Boston's WBZ-TV if he had ever harmed his wife, Curren said, ``No, no, no ... the irony was, she would accuse me of abuse because I threatened to keep her alive.''))
