There is new information on Tuesday's plane crash that killed a Vinton man
in Roanoke County.
A preliminary report released today says the wreakage shows there was
nothing mechanically wrong with the plane.
That comes from the National Transportation Safety Board.

pilot, Praveen Bhaskaran (Bah-Sharin).
Investigators say the Vinton man reported a problem shortly before the plane
According to the plane's data recorder, Bhaskaran (Bah-Sharin) transmitted
that he was going to attempt to land at the Roanoke Regional Airport using an
instrument landing system approach.
While trying to land he radioed to another pilot and said QUOTE: "...we're
still about twenty nine hundred, we're starting to see some ground about now."
About 25 seconds later, during the last recorded message, he also radioed
"I'll tell what I'm gonna do... I'm gonna do a missed approach..."
The transmission then ended abruptly.
The report says the marker beacon lights were not observed in the instrument
panel or on the accident site.
A review of maintenance records revealed they were removed in April and

A Floyd man died last night after wrecking his car in Montgomery County.
58 year- old David Underwood apparently ran his Ford Thunderbird off the
road and struck a tree around 6.
It happened on Route 8, between Christiansburg and Floyd.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Last night in Campbell County a truck accident claimed the life of a
Police say 30-year-old Marvin Daryl Payne was driving his pick-up truck down
the middle of route six-96.
As another car approached Payne... he swerved off the road... struck a tree
The accident happened around 8-30.

The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra will open its season in October with a new
David Wiley is now in town preparing for his debut.
Wiley and his wife have moved to Roanoke, and he is now planning concerts
and educational programs and preparing for musical rehearsals.
This week he took part in Roanoke's All-America City Celebration, and said
he is looking forward to opening night.

Tim Biakabutuka, the Carolina Panthers number one draft pick, says he's
