the man killed in a head on crash in Roanoke this afternoon.

Traffic on Brandon Avenue was blocked in both directions for well over an
hour as emergency crews tried to save the man.
No one else in the accident appeared to have suffered any life threatening
injuries.
Roanoke Police have not completed their investigation into what caused the
wreck.

Catawba Creek Road shortly after 1 this afternoon.
A small child was thrown about fifty feet into a field.
A 14 year old girl had to be cut out of the vehicle.
Her legs were pinned between the floorboard and seat.
She's in critical condition this evening.
The person driving the vehicle was also a juvenile.
He was transported by ambulance to R-M-H.

Tuesday the plane he was flying crashed near MacAfee's Knob.
But the crash was not the topic of this memorial service.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash, but they
have ruled out engine failure.
That night the Vinton man aborted one landing attempt at Roanoke Regional
Airport because of fog.
Investigators say he crashed when he was circling for a second attempt.
Talex was relying on his flight plan and radar information from the
Washington Air Traffic Control Center.

Some Southside Virginia chambers are trying to get their communities into
tourism's fast lane.
They're working on a campaign to promote the region's auto racing events and
heritage.
Four months after closing down due to financial problems, the Quibell
Corporation of Roanoke is up and running again.
The company's new owner has hired 20 people to bottle its water, sparkling
water, and tea.

the wall in turn two it was the second caution of the day on lap 32.
Mark Martin moved back to the front and he was the leader after 75 laps Lake
Speed and Ricky Rudd were running second and third.
Rusty Wallace was running 9-th but blew an engine and took his car into the
garage area.
Jeff Gordon and Jarrett battled for the fourth spot early in the race and
Jarrett eventually took over the position.
Jarrett's teammate Ernie Irvan was strong at this point in the race he
was running second with Ricky Rudd third.
Dale Earnhardt and Ken Schrader get together on lap 187 Schrader hits the
wall and Earnhardt slides into the grass and gets back on the track.
Jarrett took the lead from Martin with 7 laps to go and he held off the
