It was the town's first murder in nine years.

The daughter and grandson of a Martinsville city councilman have been killed in a traffic accident.
Lisa Dallas Teel and her five-year-old son Donte Dallas died Saturday afternoon, after the car they were riding in collided with a van on Memorial Boulevard.
Police say the car's driver, 31-year-old Kermit Waller of Martinsville, lost control on the wet road and slid into oncoming traffic.
The driver of the van, Quincly Valentine, also of Martinsville, was taken to a hospital in North Carolin.
Police are still investigating the accident and have NOT filed any charges.

But they hit a stumbling block when they punctured a water main.
Meanwhile, town officials say they're not clear on the future of the building once the valuables are retrieved.

In White Plains, New York today, Conchita Link was sentenced to six- to- 20 years in prison for stealing the photographs.
Court officials say she'll spend a minimum of six years behind bars.
The prints are worth nearly two- million dollars.

Winston Link took the pictures of Norfolk and Western steam locomotives in the late 19-50s. Some now sell for more than 12-hundred dollars apiece.
Prosecutors say Conchita link stole the pictures around the end of 1991.
Police warn anyone offered Link photographs in a private sale to be wary -- the prints may be stolen property.

When Horace Fralin died, the Real Estate Developer was worth 85- million dollars.
Now his heirs are suing the U-S government over estate taxes.
Congress raised the rates on inheritance taxes AFTER Fralin died in 1993, but Fralin's heirs believe it should not have been retroactive.
The Fralin estate has already paid the tax bill, but the I-R-S rejected a claim for a refund of 754-thousand dollars.
Haywood Fralin filed suit in federal court last week.
By the way, Horace Fralin's estate gave Virginia Tech more than ONE Million dollars last year.
