Those are just a few of the changes on the way to regulate the tobacco
industry's grip on children.

So, in an effort to cut teen smoking in half in seven years ID's
will now be required for purchase... outdoor billboards can't be closer than
1000 feet from schools or playgrounds.
No longer can there be give aways..
shirts.. caps.. bags with logos.
No vending machines can be located in places where minors have access and in
two years no more brand name sponsored

And in what administration officials believe is one of the most

The Fifth District Democrat says any move to restrict advertising of tobacco
products will likely face a legal challenge.
That could mean years of costly court battles.

He says the timing of the president's announcement is purely political.
Payne thinks Clinton is trying to draw attention away from reports that DRUG
use among teens has risen during his administration.
President Clinton's crack down on tobacco advertising has concerned NASCAR.
With a cigarette manufacturer as it's primary sponsor, the stock car racing
association says Clinton's order could have a negative impact on the sport.
The plan calls for a ban on tobacco sponsorship of sporting events and brand
name advertising on things like t-shirts and hats.
The owner of the Bristol Motor Speedway says companies such as R- J-
Reynolds have contributed a lot to racing.

Some experts caution that the traces may have originated NOT from a bomb
on board the plane, but from firearms ammunition on board the salvage ships.
Four Marines are dead following a military plane crash in the mountains of
Southern Arizona today.
The plane crashed at about 1 P-M today.
It took a military helicopter three hours to reach the remote crash site.
The Marine Prowler aircraft is used to jam enemy communications.
The accident follows two military plane crashes in Maryland yesterday that
left at least one person dead.
A slumber party turned deadly in Chesapeake-
Police say a neighbor broke into a home last night- raped and stabbed two
girls and then killed a third girl.
A teenage brother of one of the girls was upstairs.
He was also stabbed when he tried to intervene.
The 19 year old suspect, Curtis Lee, lived nearby- Neighbors say he was
dating one of the girls and was not a trouble maker.

A multi-vehicle wreck in Durham North Carolina tonight has left at least
eight people dead.
Several others were also injured in the accident- at least two in critical
condition and two more in serious condition.
It happened at about five thirty tonight on Interstate 85.
Officials say most of the victims were from John Umstead Hospital- a
state psychiatric center.
Authorities have not said whether the victims were employees or patients
at the hospital.
There's yet another shake up at the Yokohama plant in Salem.
Union president Eddie Robitson confirms another round of layoffs are on the
That's in addition to the 44 job cuts last month at Yokohama.
Robitson did not know when the layoffs would come down... nor did he know
how many employees would be out of work.
Company officials would not confirm these recent developments... but they
did not rule out the possibility of future layoffs.
It happens sometimes even to the best of tenants.

The Washington Redskins made a trip to Foxboro to take on the New England
Patriots in an exhibition game.

The Redskins got on the board early. Gus Frerotte goes to the air and hits
Leslie Shepherd on the 62 yard touchdown pass Washington led 7 to nothing in
the first quarter.
The Patriots came right back Curtis Martin dives over from the three yard

Frerotte got careless with the ball before the quarter ended. Monte Brown

Car Owner Butch Mock announced this afternoon that he has signed Rick Mast to
