Now the media attention has shifted to South Carolina.
The Citadel has ended its three year legal battle to keep women out after
the U-S Supreme Court ruled in June that the all-male policy at V-M-I was
unconstitutional.
Four women are in this year's freshmen class at the Citadel.
Mary Baldwin officials say the newness attracts all the attention, but given
time everyone will adjust.

And at the gates Roanoke College, the twenty-first century arrived.
The record 440 members of the Class of 2000 converged on Salem today.
They came from as close as the Roanoke Valley and as far away as New Zealand
and Japan.
The Scholars and Honors Program at the College are experiencing big jumps in
participation this year.
Officials say the programs should grow more than 25- percent over the next
four years.

If you were travelling on Interstate 81 in Augusta County early this
morning-- more than likely you were delayed.
That's because State Police spent about 12 hours gathering cows off the
road.
Apparently 20 cows got loose around 8-30 last night.
The interstate was closed for about 8 miles.

In Halifax County a drug raid netted 12 arrests.
The Sheriff's Department and State Police worked hand- in- hand.
It all took place between 10 last night and two this morning at the
intersection of 6-0-3 and 5-0-1 in Cody and Volens.
Four vehicles, two handguns, marijuana and several grams of crack cocaine
were seized.
