((The security is as intense as it gets. Every bag is searched, every odd item

Credentials are inspected closely, even scanned for authenticity.
The streets around the United Center are now barricaded, and the police are
everywhere. In the wake of the Atlanta Olympic bombing and the constant fear
of terrorism, the police and secret service are keeping things tight.
Inside the United Center, the cast of the Broadway hit "Rent" rehearsed
the finale of tonight's convention session, the theme of which will be the
achievements of the Clinton administration. The president will be seen on the
big TV screens, live from his whistlestop tour.
He'll be in Ohio where today he told a class of police recruits he favors
a law to ban gun ownership for anyone convicted of domestic abuse.
Clinton arrives in Chicago Wednesday.
In Chicago, the President's advance team is headed by his wife Hillary and
Vice President Al Gore, who's taken to warming up his audiences with
self-effacing humor.

The First Lady charmed the Connecticut delegation, extolling the
President's accomplishments over four years and warning about negative
campaigning by the other side.

searching for a robbery suspect.

bag of money to a bank about four o'clock when the suspect snatched the bag out
of the manager's hand and fled.
Police say the suspect has been seen running in the area by numerous

The suspect is described as a black male with brown shorts.
The amount of cash has not been disclosed.

A report from the Mayo Clinic finds that patients who are hostile are more
than twice as likely as non-hostile patients to have a failed angioplasty.
During the procedure, a balloon catheter is inserted in narrowed heart
arteries to open them up and keep the blood flowing.
Researchers followed patients who were rude, surly, and combative and
compared them to others.
The study found the blood pressure and the heart rates of the hostile
patients went up, increasing the adrenalin in their system which caused
renewed damage to their arteries.

If the National Committee for Quality Assurance has it way h-m-o's will be
getting report cards in the near future.
The committee will rate about half of the nation's 600 h-m-o's....starting
with how they manage preventive-care measures. Later they'll rate routine
health problems. There will be a fee to get an h-m-o's rating.

Those who've received an organ transplant are at risk for developing
malignant tumors, but a new treatment is showing promise.
By mixing the patients own immune cells with an immunity booster---called
interleukin-2---and then reinjecting it back in the patient---the patients
own system can fight off the tumor.
Doctors at the University of Pittsburgh Medical center say tumors
disappeared in 4 of 7 patients studied.

The Agriculture Department has a new fat replacer in the works-- it's
called Z-Trim, a no-taste, no calories, fat substitute.
Z-trim is also good for you and adds some fiber to your diet.
The U-S-D-A says Z-Trim is body friendly unlike Olestra, which can cause
gastrointestinal problems.
Products made with Z-trim should be on the market next year. ))

Trying to lose weight the fast way got a number of people in Colorado and
Wyoming into trouble.
More than 50 people developed infections where they received an injection
of a substance called Adrenal Cortex Extract.
The product was contaminated with a rare bacteria which can cause
abscesses to form.
The sores were treated with antibiotics.
The F-D-A warns that Adrenal Cortex Injections are not considered safe.

manager. He's been managing the Mets triple-A team in Tidewater.

Also, the Colorado Rockies announced this afternoon that Bill Swift will be
activated to the big league roster tonight and start on the mound against the

Popov is in stable condition in an exclusive Kremlin hospital after getting

this morning.
The four women who have joined the corps of cadets now have a new look.
Just like the hundreds of male cadets, they've got official military-style
haircuts.
The cuts for the four women aren't quite as short as the ones on the men,
but they're still close-cropped above the ears.
The only other ways the female cadets will be treated differently at the
former all-male military institute are by putting blinds on their windows and
latches on their doors.
