The barricades are up, security officers are everywhere and police are asking everyone to pass-through metal detectors before they can enter the convention arena.
Let there be no doubt, the serious work is about to begin.
The president overnighted in columbus, after a day of charged-up speeches and almost endless hand-shaking with the people who live in the important mid-west states that he very nearly swept last election.
He began day two looking very much like a man making a hard run at the White House.

His wife is already in chicago and is about to step into the convention lime-light.
She spoke exclusively with CBS correspondent jose diaz-balart, defending president clinton's decision to overhaul the nation's welfare system, denying guarantees to families with dependent children.

For working people, retirement is a big part of the American Dream.
But pensions employees receive are shrinking, Social Security looks iffy, and the cost of living keeps going up.
The Institute of Certified Financial Planners says consider these points before you retire.
REASONS TO KEEP WORKING.
You may need to keep working because you can't retire at the income level you'd like.
And for some, work gives people purpose and meaning.
CAREER CHOICES.
You can always switch to another job.
You could go back to school and learn a new career.
WORK OPTIONS
You don't have to work full- time.
Part- time work, telecommuting, or freelancing are all possibilities.
RETIREMENT MYTHS.
Rethinking retirement means shattering myths.
Common ones include things like older workers aren't desirable, are less productive, and can't learn new ways.
