burning, most caused by lightning strikes.
But at least one California fire is a case of arson.

morning, after being set by a teenage boy monday night.
The flames have burned at least 15-thousand acres and more homes have been

Home.

Stallins is a three time winner of the Roanoke Valley Hall of Fame Women's
Golf Tournament.
She's also a former gym teacher from Andrew Lewis High School.

A freak logging accident killed a 39 year- old Christiansburg man yesterday.

The man was cutting a tree with a chainsaw when the tree split, and snapped
back into his stomach.
A co-worker ran to his aid but was unable to assist.

his name.

through surgery in stable condition this morning.

Grover Mayberry's Cadillac had just turned off Travilian onto Hollins Road
yesterday when it ran into an Oldsmobile station wagon.
The accident CLOSED the road for more than two hours.
Roanoke County police theorize that Mayberry tried to avoid the accident,
but ran off the road, hit a pole and wound up hitting the other car broadside.
Mayberry was not wearing a seatbelt. He was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital by Lifeguard 10.

In Montana, a man's obsession with rats led to a standoff with police.

taking his pet rats.
Police finally burst into the room where he was holed up when remote
controlled cameras revealed Dorton had put down his weapon.
No one was injured in the incident.
