A couple of pit bulls were shot by City Police this morning after terrorizing a northwest Roanoke neighborhood.

The shooting occurred after one of the dogs attacked a poodle and another puppy on Madison Avenue.

During the early morning hours... a jury convicted 42- year- old Larry Jerome Stovall of embezzling funds and pocketing evidence.
Stovall worked as a narcotics investigator until earlier this year.
His attorney tried to persuade the jury that the missing money was nothing more than a bookkeeping error.
But jurors didn't give Stovall sympathy.
Instead they gave him a 2- year jail term... and will force him to pay more than 15- hundred dollars in fines.

A 39 year- old Christiansburg man died in a freak logging accident yesterday.

The man was cutting a tree with a chainsaw when the tree split, and snapped back into his stomach.
A co-worker ran to his aid but was unable to help.
The victim suffered major internal injuries and died at the scene.

She's been charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute... plus one count of marijuana possesion.
Last month she received a similar indictment in Salem.

Stallins is a three time winner of the Roanoke Valley Hall of Fame Women's Golf Tournament.
She's also a former gym teacher from Andrew Lewis High School.

Between eight to ten thousand Spaniards lobbed tomatoes at each other at the annual tomato fight in Southern Spain.
The 44-year-old tradition started when friends in market stalls threw tomatoes at each other for fun.
Ten tons of tomatoes were trucked into town from surrounding farms.
The hour-long tomato war as you can see leaves the town and participants drenched and sometimes practically swimming in red pulp.
