"Madam secretary the great state of ohio......casts everyone of its 172 votes for the current and next president of the united states, bill clinton."
The president's image made it to the big screen but the man himself chose to stay in his hotel, away from the convention hall as delegates unanimously nominated him for re-election.
This night was meant to highlight vice president al gore who some believe will be the party's best hope in 2000.
"I WOULD LIKE TO DEMONSTRATE FOR YOU THE AL GORE VERSION OF THE MACARENA."
Making fun of his often-times dead-pan personality,
"WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IT AGAIN." ...The vice president then got down to the campaign, but even then ended up praising bob dole. "WE HONOR HIS SERVICE TO AMERICA." But later he recounted their differences...saying dole is a bridge to the past while a clinton-gore adminstration is a bridge to the future.
And he personalized the administrations war on smoking, telling how he watched his own sister die from lung cancer.
"AND THAT IS WHY UNTIL I DRAW MY LAST BREATH , I WILL POUR MY HEART AND SOUL INTO THE CAUSE OF PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN FROM THE DANGERS OF SMOKING."

Forecasters say Fran could hit the islands by Friday.
Tropical storm, "Gustav," is not far behind.
"Edouard" is expected to turn northwest today and head due north, steering clear of Florida and Georgia. Points farther up the East Coast might not be as lucky if the storm doesn't then curve northeastward soon enough.
