Most of the year, the Center in Miami is a very quiet place.

((BOB LEWIS/NRV GROTTO SOCIETY: THE VAST MAJORITY OF THEM CAN'T BITE YOU, THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH STRENGTH IN THEIR JAW MUSCLES TO PENETRATE THE SKIN. OLD MYTH ABOUT THEM WANTING TO FLY IN YOUR HAIR, THAT'S NOT TRUE. THEY'RE NOT DANGEROUS, THEY'RE REALLY NEAT LITTLE CREATURES SO WE DO WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THEM AND PROTECT THEM. ))

That doesn't mean we, in this region, need to worry about a group like this taking up residence in our homes.
The small brown bats most prevalent here may be perfectly comfortable hanging out in a bat house. Virginia Tech's Museum of Natural History has kits to build your own.
You may even learn to appreciate them. One bat may eat several thousand bugs each night. And certain species are critical for pollination.
