(( With their two year quarterback controversy now in the past, the Redskins were set to officially begin the Gus Frerotte era. But after receiving a rousing welcome, he almost suffered a concussion. Porous and occasionally non-existent pass protection had Frerotte running for cover all day. ((GUS FREROTTE/SACKED THREE TIMES:))
Much of the blame for the lack of protection falls in the lap of first year Redskins Shar POurdanesh, the 6-6 , 318 pound tackle was beaten consistently by former Boston College star Mike Mamula. ((SHAR POURDANESH/REDSKINS OFFENSIVE TACKLE:))
Despite holding the Eagles to just 17 points, and pitching a shutout in the second half, the Redskins defense also has some improving to do after letting Rodney Peete throw for 257 yards and 2 TDs in the first half.)) Twenty five year old Holcomb entered a Big Backyard Bar-be-cue contest given by VH-1.
He won the rock star for an afternoon and some other picnic prizes-- like a state of the art grill and an outdoor sound system. (----------------)
