((Hurricane fran gathered momentum just before it came ashore at dusk with its 115 mile per hour winds and torrential rains... it tore into cape fear, North Carolina first. The category Three Hurricane ripped apart trees and anything else it could sink its powerful wind gusts into one weather station measured 124 mile per hour gusts.

Fran headed towards Wilmington North Carolina where the downpour was actually blowing sideways...and the flooded streets had puddles eighteen inches deep. Before the worst of the storm even hit, Wilmington had recorded eleven inches of rain in twelve hours

More than half a million people were evacuated along the coasts of North and South Carolina...and thousands of people lay safely inside emergency shelters waiting out the storm. In Myrtle Beach the force of hurricane Fran was less than expected. but none the less it showed its strength. the results of flooding and sea surges remain to be seen.
