areas to clear out NOW, as Hurricane Fran approaches.

the upcoming season and handing over the program to assistant Bobby Hussey.
Hurricane Fran will push right through central Virginia tomorrow. A flash
flood watch and a high wind watch are in effect.
As Hurricane Fran bears down on the South Carolina coast, Virgniia is making
its own preparations.

State officials are preparing for the biggest emergency event since 1985.
That's when what was left of Hurricane Juan caused dramatic flooding.

Keith, the Governor was comparing the potential impact of this hurricane to
Hugo in 1989.
He did declare a state of emergency midday today.
But state Emergency Services director Addison Slayton says this will be
worse than Hugo, because Hugo was a relatively dry storm that moved across
Virginia much more quickly than Fran will.

So the emergency operations center was just starting to get staffed up this

officials were warned in a conference call that state relief would be spread

While the Southeastern U-S braces for the worst, Halifax County is still
coping with flood waters brought on by heavy rain that fell just a few days
Many fear the water that still blankets the area could be nothing compared
to what may be in store.

The high water is a result of heavy rain that fell earlier this week causing
the Dan River to swell.

The murder of a 68 year- old retired school teacher has shocked and
frightened her neighbors in Marion.
Police found the body of Anna Jean Anderson in her home on Culbert Street
A concerned neighbor had gone to check on her because she hadn't been seen
since Tuesday, and called police when things appeared suspicious.

A four-car accident in Wytheville killed two people this morning.
Police say Trenton Lacy Crockett of Wytheville crashed his Dodge Dakota into

The Dakota then ran up on a sidewalk, plowed into a PARKED Dodge pickup,
pushing it into a parked FORD truck
Crockett and a woman in the parked Dodge, Doris Jean Bivens of Bastian both
