The South Carolina and North Carolina coastal regions are under a state of
emergency this afternoon as Hurricane Fran moves closer to shore.
The category three storm, with its 115 mile an hour winds, is expected to
slam into the southeastern coast late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Fran's center is still far off shore, but already rain and strong winds are
tearing at the Carolina beaches.
Forecasters now predict the storm's eye will come ashore between Myrtle
Beach South Carolina and Wilmington, North Carolina.
Fran is expected to dump five to ten inches of rain and create storm
surges of 12 to 16 feet.
