Danville's location has not been determined.
Flooding damaged hundreds of roads all across the state, but the biggest
loss may have been a bridge that hadn't seen traffic for more than forty years.

(( When last we saw the Marysville bridge, it had withstood the worst of Mother
Nature for nearly 120 years.
Last Friday however, rain from Hurricane Fran swelled Seneca Creek to the
point where water was pushing against the sides.
Just minutes after these pictures were taken, the bridge was washed away.

Paul Good had carved his name somewhere on that bridge.
He watched a piece of his childhood go.

1700's.. all fell victim to flooding and were eventually rebuilt.
However, with a modern span already in place, it's highly unlikely the last
version of the Marysville bridge will be replaced, which means Campbell County
has a lost a piece of its history.))

But the bridge will live on, in the memories of the residents and on the
canvas of Janson Harrill.
Harrill retired to central Virginia two years ago to devote more time to his
hobby of oil painting.
Looking to capture the flavor of some local historic sites, he was directed
to the Marysville bridge.

Coast Guard helicopters did see action during the recent flooding--they
were used to evacuate residents in the Rockbridge County community of Elkton
and also in Page County.
A nine- month undercover investigation in Pulaski County may take 31 alleged
drug dealers off the street.
Police fanned out to make the arrests this morning.
The suspects face a total of 55 charges, including distribution of crack,
methamphetamine and various prescription drugs.
Authorities say besides the street dealers, they were also managed to nail
some mid- level suppliers.

A three- judge panel in Roanoke is hearing evidence that will determine the
future of Virginia's only black majority congressional district.
The Third Congressional District stretches from Richmond and the northern
neck down to Tidewater.
A national conservative group has mounted a constitutional challenge,
arguing that the district was drawn primarily along racial lines.
Today state lawyers argued there were other considerations as well, and
incumbent Congressman Bobby Scott said he's confident the state will prevail.

Today, the judges heard from two experts on redistricting and a delegate
from Chesterfield County.
The case will continue with more testimony tomorrow, but the judges are

Bob Goodlatte this November.

The Virginia Tech Football Team has made its share of headlines in the past
few years both on and off the field.
Yes, the bowl appearances create a lot of excitement, but the off the field
discipline problems often take the lustre off the accomplishments.
The University of Virginia has also had to deal with some of the same
problems in the past year.
All-ACC kicker Rafael Garcia was convicted on a drunk driving charge in
Basketball recruit Melvin Whitaker was arrested for the malicious wounding of
a Cavalier football player on the University grounds in March.
And senior point guard Harold Deane was convicted last month of trespassing
and resisting arrest.

Students promise to steer clear of alcohol and tobacco during their playing
seasons, and illegal drugs at all times.

violations mean mandatory suspension for the season, and no athletic aid for
the next semester.

In one other college note, Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke announced this
afternoon that the Notre Dame-Navy game in 1998 will be played in his brand new
stadium that is currently under construction near Landover, Maryland.
Cooke also says he hopes to showcase the Army-Navy game in the near future.
