weekend at Virginia Military Institute.
V-M-I's board has promised an answer on co-education by the conclusion of
meetings that began today on Post.
But the governor told Richmond grade school kids today that the board may
pursue a "dual track" for a while.

Interstate 81 in Montgomery County.
Around 5:30, 78-year old Marshall G. Hutchins of Bristol, Vermont was killed
when the car he was riding in attempted to pull back onto the interstate from

to decide if it will admit women or go private.
But now Governor George Allen -- who fielded a student question on VMI on a
school tour today -- is casting doubt on the deadline.
Allen spoke of a "dual track" the board might pursue for a while.

The order came as part of a suit filed by the state attorney general
against a company called assistant surgeons of Texas.
Prosecutors say the employees were graduates of questionable foreign
medical schools. The would-be doctors never even STARTED the years of training
needed to be licensed in the United States.
Prosecutors say the defendants worked as operating room assistants but
billed patients as if they were physicians.
Nurses told investigators the assistants were sometimes left in charge.
The company president called himself DOCTOR Jaime Olmo.
He is not licensed to practice medicine in Texas.
Next year he and the other defendants will face trial, accused of defrauding

Governor Don Beyer was roaming the halls of Cave Spring Junior High.
Today, he said the state needs to do more to help local governments
renovate and replace older buildings.
Beyer heads a commission

He says Cave Spring Junior High is a typical school in which overcrowding
and outdated facilities are familiar problems.

Sarah Hicks was back at practice today on crutches. the senior, one of the
state's best players, spent much of this Wednesday in the doctors office. She
should return to the Lady cavalier lineup in ________ weeks.
Burd avenged last year's state championship loss, but Hicks, along with her
state championship teammates have already turned their first set back of the
season into a positive.
In other Blue Ridge news, Rockbridge County has a new look. 1995 Roanoke
College basketball standout Susan Brown enters her first year as head coach.
The lady Wildcats are OH and 7 but things are looking up.
In the seminole District, Brookville's Rob Roma is in his first year as a
head coach as well. Like Brown, he's also rebuilding, the Lady Bees are 1 and 4
after losing 6 seniors to graduation.
The Lady Fighting Blues strength lies in their youth. 2 juniors and 2
sophomores are in the starting lineup. Paryy McCluer has reached the regionals
the last 2 years and it looks like that trend will continue.
