The order came as part of a suit filed by the state attorney general
against a company called assistant surgeons of Texas.
Prosecutors say the employees were graduates of questionable foreign
medical schools. The would-be doctors never even STARTED the years of training
needed to be licensed in the United States.
Prosecutors say the defendants worked as operating room assistants but
billed patients as if they were physicians.
Nurses told investigators the assistants were sometimes left in charge.
The company president called himself DOCTOR Jaime Olmo.
He is not licensed to practice medicine in Texas.
Next year he and the other defendants will face trial, accused of defrauding
insurance companies.

Fred McGriff hit two homers this afternoon as the Braves beat the Astros 6 to
2 moving closer to clinching the National League East title.

homer his second of the game and the Braves took the 6 to 1 lead on the Astros.

the sixth but the Braves hand the Astros their ninth straight loss on the road
with the 6 to 2 win.

The San Diego Padres blew a 4 to 1 lead but bounced back to beat the San
Francisco giants this afternoon 8 to 5.

The Cincinnati Reds have suspended Kevin Mitchell without pay for the rest
of the season. He failed to report to the Red's series in Pittsburgh.
General Manager Jim Bowden says the suspension for 13 games was retroactive
to yesterday.
The Reds were in action tonight for that and all of the scores lets check

Virginia Tech Basketball Star Ace Custis suffered a sprained left knee in
prepractice condition Tuesday.

Tech Trainer Jimmy Lawrence says Custis did not suffer any serious damage to
the knee but he'll be sidelined for several weeks.
But Custis is expected to be ready when practice starts in October.
Custis led the hokies to a 23 and 6 record and an N-C-A-A tournament berth
last season when he averaged over 13 points and 9 rebounds a game.

Sarah Hicks was back at practice today on crutches. the senior, one of the
state's best players, spent much of this Wednesday in the doctors office. She
should return to the Lady cavalier lineup in ________ weeks.
Burd avenged last year's state championship loss, but Hicks, along with her
state championship teammates have already turned their first set back of the
season into a positive.

In other Blue Ridge news, Rockbridge County has a new look. 1995 Roanoke
College basketball standout Susan Brown enters her first year as head coach.
The lady Wildcats are OH and 7 but things are looking up.

In the seminole District, Brookville's Rob Roma is in his first year as a
head coach as well. Like Brown, he's also rebuilding, the Lady Bees are 1 and 4
after losing 6 seniors to graduation.

sophomores are in the starting lineup. Paryy McCluer has reached the regionals
the last 2 years and it looks like that trend will continue.
