President Bill Clinton's campaign bus tour is hitting Oregon cities today.
Yesterday, the President and Vice President received warm welcomes from
citizens of Washington state.
The two even got special attention when they jumped to help push a secret
service van stuck in the mud. Their action caught about 20 agents by
surprise... and they all crowded the vehicle to help.

Republican candidate Bob Dole is still on the campaign trail with a slightly
swollen and red left eye.
He escaped serious injury in the fall from the platform, but his aids say
his campaign was damaged by the widely circulated pictures of the accident.
Dole's campaign is struggling to refocus attention on his anti drug
crusade... and he's calling on journalists for balanced reporting on America's

North Franklin Street this morning.

Roberts is running against Democrat incumbent Rick Boucher and Republican

The new reform party headquarters will also coordinate congressional and

The 5th District Congressional race now includes a THIRD candidate.
50- year old Tex Wood announced his candidacy in Danville this morning.
The Woolwine resident was nominated by the Virginia Independent Party.
Wood is no stranger to politics.
He successfully challenged Virginia's ballot access laws during an attempt
to run for U-S Senate.
Wood never secured a place on the ballot for that office.
But a federal judge did rule in his favor saying the state has a too-early
filing deadline for independents.

Fire investigators say an overheated dryer might be to blame for a blaze in
Fire fighters got the call shortly after ten this morning.
No one was home at the time... but the dryer was left running.
The timer had been set for an hour and a half.
The blaze was extinguished within minutes... but the back of the house
suffered severe fire and smoke damage.
Authorities have charged the Pulaski County registrar with three counts of
stealing public funds.
Phyllis Kay Hanks turned herself in yesterday when investigators asked her
to come to the sheriff's office.
Sheriff Ralph Dobbins says when Bell Atlantic refunded county departments
for overpayments, Hanks deposited three checks to the registrar's office in her
The checks totalled more than 17 hundred dollars.
Dobbins says Hanks repaid the full amount to the county last week.
Pope John Paul the second is in France today where he celebrated Mass this

A special legislative commission says Virginia insurance companies should
NOT have to cover the cost of birth control pills.
Wednesday Planned Parenthood came out in favor of the legislation, but
yesterday the commission declined to send it to a House of Delegates committee.
The bill would require all insurance companies, H-M-O's and corporations
that offer coverage for prescription drugs to also include prescription
Supporters say paying for contraceptives would reduce the number of unwanted
pregnancies and lower health care costs.
Opponents --including Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield -- say it's an issue of

Child support collections by the state were up 14- percent this year, and
state officials say they're on a roll.
