The Board of Visitors today narrowly approved a plan to open the Institute

Magna Vista High School's first and only boys basketball coach is dead.
52-year old Jim Gordon Young died this morning in an vehicle accident on
Route 2-20 in Ridgeway.
Young became Magna Vista's coach right after the school was built in 19-88.
He led the Warriors to a state title in 19-89.

State Police say the driver of a Lincoln Towncar was heading north when a

A Roanoke woman whose mother and four children were killed in a house fire
in January is taking legal action for a second time.
Patricia Leftwich filed five lawsuits yesterday totaling
three-and-three-quarter million dollars against a real estate company.
Moore & Company did repair work at the Stewart Avenue home prior to the
Leftwich says it used combustible materials which may have fueled the deadly
Moore and Company's attorney said the company had nothing to do with the
house at the time of the fire.
Leftwich settled a seperate lawsuit with her LANDLORD for 270- thousand

Many Garth Brooks fans walked away from the Roanoke Civic Center happy.

Country singer Garth Brooks is coming to town in November.
Nearly six thousand wrist bands with numbers were handed out this week.
This morning a number was drawn and luckily for Eric Jackson his number came
up to ensure his spot at the head of the line.
Four years ago many fans were miffed by Brooks' ticket lottery system.
But the kinks seemed to have been worked out.
