A Bedford County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in a vehicle accident
Mark Dooley was responding to a domestic dispute when he rounded a sharp
curve, lost control and totaled his cruiser.
It happened on Route ONE-22 just outside Bedford city limits at around 9:30.
Dooley's injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
He's being treated at Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital.
State police are investigating due to the nature of the accident.
Russian President Borris Yeltsin is in WORSE shape than previously
Yelsin's heart surgeon said on Russian television tonight that open heart
surgery on the Kremlin leader could be delayed for up to two months.
Yeltsin's former press secretary says the Russian leader also has liver and
kidney problems worsened by drinking.
A committee of doctors will meet this week to decide whether Yeltsin is
healthy enough to survive surgery.
The sultry, sarong-wearing sidekick of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, is dead at
Actress Dorothy Lamour died this morning at her North Hollywood home.
The cause of death is not known.
Lamour was often typecast as a sort of female Tarzan in a string of
island-theme movies in the late 1930's and early '40s.
She wore her trademark wraparound sarong in the first of the
Hope-Crosby "Road" pictures, "The Road to Singapore," in 1940.
The "Road" films combined adventure, slapstick, zany ad libs and
Lamour was born in New Orleans in 1914.
The United States could make a major decision next week regarding the number
of aircraft carriers patrolling the no-fly zone over Iraq.
Defense Secretary William Perry told a Swedish journalist a decision to
reduce the number of aircraft carriers would hinge on Saddam Hussein.
The United States' move to beef up its presence in the troubled region was a
result of Iraqi forces violating the no fly zone and firing at US jets.
