More often than not, the request is granted... and then that person has
access to make long distance... even international calls.
Worst of all the phone company, and long distance carriers are not at fault.
Therefore it's the victim who winds up footing the bill.

If you think it can't happen to you, think again.
Even the Roanoke County Police Department has been on the receiving end of
this scam.
Nearly a thousand dollars worth of fraudulent phone calls were made from
police telephone lines... so TAX PAYERS have ultimately paid the price.

A Bedford County sheriff's deputy remains hospitalized after wrecking his
police cruiser last night.
Deputy Mark Dooley was responding to a call of shots fired when he lost
control of his car on Route 122 just outside the Bedford city limits.
State police say Dooley will "not" be charged in the accident since he was
responding to an emergency call.
Bedford authorities are checking into whether steering problems associated
with the type of car Dooley was driving may have contributed to the accident.
