A spectacle on Interstate 581 today--
Two people were injured when a small car and a tractor- trailer collided and caught fire in Roanoke.
The accident happened in the southbound lanes of 581 near the Hershberger Road interchange at about three o'clock.
The vehicles were driving beside each other when the CAR left the road.
Witnesses say the car hit the median, and then went under the trailer.
The two people in the car were injured, but escaped, with the help of other motorists, then the car AND trailer exploded.
The injured were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, their injuries are not life-threatening.
Police closed the highway in both directions for more than an hour.
