Two people were injured this afternoon when a small car and a tractor-
trailer collided and caught fire in Roanoke.
The accident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 581 shortly
before three o'clock.

The occupants of the car were injured in the crash, but bystanders
reportedly helped them escape as the car and the truck caught fire.

Police closed the highway in both directions for more than an hour, but
traffic resumed after the wreckage was cleared from the southbound lanes.
Authorities in Franklin County are still trying to figure out what triggered
a fatal shooting last night.

Sydnorsville trailer, with gunshot wounds to his back and chest.
His live- in girlfriend... 24- year- old Angela Light... was arrested at the
scene and charged with murder.

Light was arraigned this afternoon... and bond was set at 50- thousand
She's currently being held at the Roanoke County Jail.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for next month.
The man who made threatening phone calls to young girls in the Roanoke
Valley is going to prison for 15 and a half years.
That was the sentence a Roanoke County judge gave Michael Obremski today.
Obremski pleaded no contest a few weeks ago to a variety of charges,
including making abduction threats and taking indecent liberties with a minor.
In a background report prepared for today's hearing, Obremski admits he was
the man who had been stalking children in the Raleigh Court neighborhood.
Obremski still faces trial in Roanoke on several counts of molesting
children over the telephone.
Danville city council will decide tonight whether 76- low income apartments
will be torn down.
Housing officials say the move would ease overcrowding and related problems
at Liberty View.
The Danville Redevelopment and Housing Authority wants to build a high tech
learning center on the site for low income families.
Council is expected to approve both measures, but a third request is
