But not after one parting shot at the victim's father.

Davis kidnapped 12-year old Polly Klaas from a slumber party October 1993,
attempted to sexually assault her and then strangled her.

The victim s father erupted and had to be escorted out of the courtroom after
Davis finished reading from his prepared statement.
Earlier the victim s father also spoke.

Death is what the jury and judge ordered following his conviction last June.

the death penalty comes with automatic appeal in California and richard allen
davis has apparently laid the groundwork to fight on.
He said his lawyers did not represent him properly and that the police
violated his rights.

A meeting could be in the works for tomorrow between Israeli leader

The Senate's failed to override a presidential veto banning some late term

federal investigation into financial wrongdoing.
Tracy Alitzer reports the feds showed up with a search warrant today at
American Research Corporation of Virginia.

(( Federal investigators seen in and around ARCOVA today would not comment
about what they were doing.
But some former employees tell News-7 the feds have been asking questions
about altered time sheets.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, they said investigators also wanted to
know about what the ex-employees call a common practice at ARCOVA of taking
money from one project to pay for another, and to pay company overhead.
Owner Russell Churchill was not available for comment, and his wife Ann
Churchill refused to answer any questions.

ARCOVA is a designated Small Business Innovative Research company.
Congress enacted the SBIR program in 1982 to help small companies bring new
products to the market.
The ex-employees we spoke with say ARCOVA has secured more than 100

Prosecutors won the first round in the Penny Stallins drug case.

Stallins is a 3-time winner of the Roanoke Valley Amateur Golf Tournament,
and a former gym teacher in the Salem School System.
In June she was busted with 2 onces of cocaine and charged with possession
with the intent to distribute the drug.
Her attorneys tried to have some of the evidence suppressed... but the
motions were denied.
Stallins faces similar drug charges in Salem.

At issue- a college course Gingrich taught.
Democrats claimed it was political propoganda financed by tax free funds.
The course became the basis for Newt Gingrich's best selling book.
In a statement the speaker says the investigation will clear his name.

The Transportation Department says the airline's met all government
requirements and is certified to fly again.

A physician in Craig County has been accused of impersonating a police
officer and brandishing a firearm.
Doctor William C. Anderson was following three young men in a vehicle on
Saturday, September 14th. When they stopped, Anderson allegedly pulled a gun
Three days later Paul Roy Law swore out a warrant against Anderson.
The 48 year old physician works at the Lewis Gale Family Practice clinic in
New Castle, but he's on vacation this week and could not be reached for
Doctor Anderson is due in General District Court next month.
A new business in Salem is making the best of a bad situation.
The firm called "A Helping Hand," is providing neutral ground for families
separated by divorce.
Scottie Laughon (LAWN) says she came up with the idea while she was working
as a deputy clerk in juvenile court.

With its detention home bursting at the seams, Lynchburg has been looking
for more space to house its young offenders.
Central Virginia officials today broke ground for a five million dollar
expansion to Lynchburg's juvenile detention facility.
It will add forty new beds and create space for programs designed to keep

Astronaut Shannon is back on firm ground for the first time in six months.

Lucid and the crew aboard the space shuttle Atlantis made their way back to
earth earlier today.
It ended Lucid's record one hundred-88 days in space, most of which was spent
on the Russian "Mir" Space Station.
Officials were prepared to carry her out on a stretcher after her long stay
in weightless space.
But Lucid was able to walk out of the Shuttle under her own power.
President Clinton sent his congratulations to the astronaut over the phone.
