Authorities have captured one of the suspects in a murder today in Pulaski
County.
Pulaski County authorities say 27 year-old Joseph Ray Graham, Junior was
apprehended in Tazewell County tonight.
He's suspected in the murder of Elmer Eugene Fisher.
Another suspect, Darick Dewayne Wetzel, is still at large.
Tracy Altizer has details of the crime.

man they questioned led them to the New River.
The man had given 22 year- old Darick Dewayne Wetzel and 27 year- old Joseph
Ray Graham, Junior a ride to the river Monday.
When they got there, he says Graham and Wetzel showed him the body of 43
year- old Elmer Eugene Fisher, described how they killed Fisher, and threatened
to kill HIM if he told.

That third suspect, who has not been charged, was an eyewitness who was
driving the group Sunday night.
suAuthorities say according to the witness, the foursome stopped here along
the New River to drink beer. That's when Graham and Wetzel allegedly pulled
knives on the victim, who managed to break free and run into the river.

One man is dead and his wife injured in what Campbell County sheriff's
deputies are calling an attempted murder-suicide.

today to report trouble.
While on the phone with the sheriff's department, she screamed and said her
husband had just shot her and then turned the gun on himself.
When Deputies arrived they found Wesly Gregory dead from a gunshot to the
neck and Brenda Gregory with a wound to her leg.

(( Randall Lee Smith shielded his identity as he embarked on freedom.
But before he could walk away from jail, he had to step inside one, one
final time.
Inside the state correctional facility in Dublin, Smith was fitted for a
home monitoring device.
Authorities will use it to keep track of Smith during his 10- year
supervised parole.
15 years ago, along the Appalachian Trail in Giles County, 2 hikers were
found dead near a shelter.
Susan Ramsay had been stabbed repeatedly.
Her companion, Bob Mountford had been shot.
Bloody fingerprints at the scene led police to Smith, who eventually pled
guilty to lesser charges of second degree murder.
Only his parole officer was there to greet him on his first day of freedom.
But Randall Lee Smith isn't expected to be alone.
He was heading home to be with his family in Pearisburg.

Roanoke police are warning people to watch out for a couple of con artists.
They cheated a 77-year-old woman from Buchanan out of several thousand
dollars yesterday.
It was a classic scam.
Two women came up to the victim outside a Northwest Roanoke department store
and said they were selling stock for the store. They said if she invested, she
could make 4-500 dollars a month.
She went and took out money from her savings account and gave it to the con
artists. They gave HER an envelope stuffed with paper.

The final first round Winston Cup qualifying run at North Wilkesboro for
Sunday's Tyson Holly Farms 400 was interrupteed by rain today.
Cup cars have battle in the half mile bull ring since 1951...those 44 years
translate into 385 thousand, 440 hours. The actual racing time at the track; in
those 44 years is somewhere in the neighborhood of 352 hours.
So waiting and extra 2 and a half hours for mother nature to cool her jets
was no problem.

Before the rain began, 27 drivers did get their qualifying laps in. Bobby
Hamilton put Richard petty's Pontiac on the pole.
Hamilton eventually fell to third behind that guy, Jeff Gordon. Gordon's
stay didn't last.
A couple of cars later, Ted Musgrave went out and put the Family Channel
Ford on the pole.
Musgrave, the pole winner for this race last year, was the fastest in
practice and was the fastest in qualifying with a speed of 118.054 miles per
hour.

((Accompanied by an ever present Uzi the Hope diamond arrived in
New York this week for a little rehab.
It seems sitting in a glass case at Washington's Smithsonian Institution is
dirty work and the world s largest blue diamond, 45.5 karats of mystery
and intrigue has been gathering dust:
Cleaning the gem is no simple task: First it is dusted with a chamois
cloth then it is replaced in its setting and the setting is carefully
tweaked and polished, each step is witnessed by a committee of anxious
onlookers.
Once safely in its setting...the diamond is polished, brushed and
polished again with tools that seem borrowed from the dentist. You don t
want to slip when you re doing this!!
After inspection by an expert...the hope diamond undergoes the final steps of
the elaborate process, rinse, and sauna.
Once cleaned the Hope diamond heads back to the Smithsonian where
curators say it is the single most popular item on display.
They steer clear of guessing the value of the stone saying only it is
