((
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has beeh holding a press conference, his first comment since he returned to Israel. He said Israelis were trying to work for peace but would not tolerate violence.
The were clashes after Friday prayers at the mosques on Jerusalem's Temple Mount today... Palestinian worshippers threw stones at israeli riot police..sed tear gas and rubber bullets... and their clubs, as they chased suspected rioters around the holy sites.
Troopers hit by stones were treated at improvised first aid stations... Injured Palestinians were rushed on stretcher from the Temple Mount, and on anything available through the historic streets fo the city. Arab sources say as many as three Paelstinians died of their injuries, though the police say they used no live ammunition.
Casualties of yesterday's violence are now beiog laid to rest... amid grief, and rage, among Palestinians... among Israelis. So far in this war there have only been losers.
The cabinet of Prime Minister Netanyahu met today, to lay all the blame squarely at the door of PLO chief Yassir Arafat, and to insist Israel wants peace, but will not make concessions to achieve it.
The controversial tunnel whose opening sparked the violence is today closed officially for an Imminent Jewish holiday.
Arafat, who prayed in a Gaza City mosque, is demanding it stay closed, for good. Jesse Schulman, CBS News, Tel Aviv.))
