Workers at Griffin Pipe say they were told that starting tomorrow 40 people
will lose their jobs, with another 20 positions gone the next week.

A firm that has been a large employer in Lynchburg for decades is cutting
People at Griffin Pipe say that in the next week about 60 jobs will be cut.
40 of those positions are gone effective tomorrow.
Right now the company has 400 hourly employees.
Walter Fore, the president of the union at the plant, says Griffin Pipe told
the rank and file Friday that it's cutting back because it is going to stop
manufacturing one of its product lines.
He says he's very unhappy that union members were given such short notice.
No one from Griffin Pipe could be reached for comment.
They've been debating each other in their campaign commercials, but tonight
Senate candidates John Warner and Mark Warner went at it face to face on public
They spent an hour taking questions from voters across the state.
On the hot topic of taxes, the candidates split on when Americans should get
a big break.

There are reports that Israeli and Palestinian officials have been meeting

A North Carolina psychiatrist with colon cancer died tonight with help from
Dr. Jack Kevorkian.
The body of 71-year-old Richard Faw was taken to a hospital in Michigan,
according to Kevorkian's attorney, Geoffrey Fieger.
Kevorkian has acknowledged assisting in at least 41 suicides since 1990.
The death is the first Kevorkian is known to have attended since Isabel
Correa of Fresno, California, died September seventh.

out AGAINST the death penalty.
Members of Murder Victims' Families for Reconciliation stopped in Blacksburg
this morning to promote non-violent alternatives to capitol punishment.
The organization is on a two week tour of Virginia called The Journey of
Pat Bane has never supported the death penalty.
And her uncle's murder did not change that.
Bane spoke at the Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel and told listeners that
victims' family members often seek closure from the murderer's death.
But she says these family members are frequently disappointed.

Could a November referendum in West Virginia have an impact on horse racing
One race track president says YES.
