A high speed chase involving a stolen car ended with one death tonight.

It all started in Alleghany County when police clocked a speeder in excess
of 87 miles per hour in a car reportedly stolen from Kentucky.
The pursuit lasted approximately six minutes with the suspect, 19-year old
Timothy Stocks, striking at least one truck and a bridge in Alleghany County.
The state police decided to call off the chase as the car approached a
dangerous intersection on Route 220 South near Gala in Botetourt County.
Stocks reportedly continued to flee when he slammed into two other cars
including a gray Volkswagen head one.
The driver of the Volkswagen was killed.
One person in the other car was injured and transported to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital with injuries described as not life threatening.

Montgomery county today.

Blacksburg firefighters arrived at the trailer at 3252 Mount Zion Road around
4:30 this afternoon.
Officials say they found the body of 52 year old Ronald L.Cromer in a back
room of the building.
He apparently died of smoke inhalation.
The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

Galax police won't discuss a motive... but they have made two arrests in the
city's latest murder.

A week and a half ago, 79- year- old Willie Goins was found dead in his
home.
He had suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest... and his wallet had been
stolen.
The main suspects in the case were 37- year- old Charles Howard, and 21-
year- old (TEE-sha) Tisha Howard-- a married couple who lived nearby.
The two apparently skipped town, but were found Friday in Tacoma Park,
Maryland.
They were charged with first degree murder, but that could change.

warning before being laid off from their jobs last Friday.

The affected employees were part of Griffin's soil pipe division, which the
company has shut down due to a declining market share.

iron pipe for use in large sewer systems.
The laid- off employees represent less than twenty percent of the Lynchburg
facility's workforce.

By the end of next year, a spur from the Blue Ridge Parkway will bring
visitors into Virginia's Explore Park.
And when they reach the site in Roanoke County, their first stop will be a
new welcome center.

Today, the living history museum announced a gift of 500- thousand dollars
from members of the Taubman family.
The donation will cover the entire cost of constructing the seven thousand
square foot building.
It will be named in memory of Arthur Taubman, the Roanoke civic leader and
