The accident happened in a narrow curving section of US-220 when the suspects' car collided with two others. 29- year- old Timothy Wayne Mays died at the scene.
The accident followed a high speed chase that started on Interstate 64 in Alleghany County.
Today, state police officials said trooper J.J. Daniels followed proper procedures as he followed the car, and ultimately called off the chase moments before the crash.

Virginia's plan has been phasing in a work requirement for those who get Aid for Families with Dependent Children.
Now, the federal government's pushing any of the more than half million Virginians who receive food stamps -- and who are between ages 18 and 50 -- onto the payroll.
If they don't have a job by March, they lose food stamps.
Warning letters from the state won't go out until next month.
