Robbie Knievel's show in Salem is cancelled after the motorcycle daredevil
is arrested during his stay in Roanoke.

Knievel was charged with public intoxication early this morning, but the
motorcycle daredevil denies he was drunk.
The son of motorcycle legend Evel Knievel was planning to jump over 25 cars
Saturday in Salem.
But following his arrest, radio stations WYYD and WROV withdrew their

Knievel says he was looking for an all-night drug store, when a man led him
to the northwest Roanoke neighborhood where he was arrested.
He says police refused to give him sobriety tests.
In California today, former Los Angeles Detective Mark Fuhrman pleaded no
contest to perjury.

Today, Fuhrman was sentenced to three years probation and fined

After two days of talks in Washington, the Israelis and Palestinians are no
closer to resolving their differences.

It is the symbolism of departing handshakes between the two
estranged leaders that President Clinton hopes will serve to bring calm to the
region while talks continue.
After a final meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu, Palestinian Chairman Yassar Arafat and President Clinton at the
White House, the President announced while they have not resolved their
differences. They have agreed to resume the stalled talks with the
withdrawal of Israeli troops from the West Bank town of Hebron the top

The president said Israel's opening of a second entrance into the
disputed tunnel near Muslim and Jewish Holy sites was also discussed, but no

American negotiator on the Israeli-Gaza border. No deadlines were set, only a
promise to negotiate on a full time basis. The leaders pledged to become
involved when necessary.
Both parties refused to make any statements at the president's
news conference, but the Israeli Prime Minister had this to say after
leaving the White House.

undertaken this summit with the outcome so uncertain. The administration's
response is that just coming out of this with the raw edges softened somewhat

Meantime Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole is criticizing the way
President Clinton is handling the the Mideast crisis.
Dole met with Prime Minister Netanyahu earlier tonight-- and says the lack
of progress in the Mideast talks demonstrates the United States cannot impose a

Since the death of a high school basketball coach, the Henry County
community has been pushing for improvements at a dangerous intersection.
Magna Vista Coach Jim Young was killed along this stretch of Route 220
nearly two weeks ago.
His death brought new attention to the traffic problem.
But a citizens' group has been working with V-DOT on a solution for the
last two years.
Jan Allen's son was killed there in January of 1995.

Two days after Young's death, the board passed a resolution asking for a
stoplight, caution lights and a lower speed limit.
An environmental group has failed to convince a federal judge to block
construction of the "smart highway."
Judge Jackson Kiser rejected each of the "New River Valley Greens'"
Among them: the exact location of the highway and potential damage to a
plant called the smooth coneflower.
Though Judge Kiser said highway planners "certainly could have been more
thorough in their analysis of the project's environmental impact," the judge
said: the Greens'-- quote-- "have failed to demonstrate the environmental
impact statement was arbitrary or capricious."
School bus drivers were prepared to walk-out in the middle of the school day

Aramark has purchased the company with a workforce of 400.
Crest supplies the health care and restaurant industries.

Republican Senator John Warner is praising President Clinton's emergency
response to Hurricane Fran.
But now, a number of federal environmental regulations are tying the hands
of Virginia farmers and landowners as they try to clean up debris.
Warner is asking FEMA director James Lee Witt and other agency heads to lift
some regulations governing waterways and the lands around them.
