An Appomattox man is dead following an accident last night in Campbell
Police say 36- year- old William Ellis the Third was driving eastbound on
Route 460 when his pickup veered off the road and overturned.

Second degree murder charges have now been filed for last Monday's deadly
high speed chase in Botetourt County.

Henry county deputies rounded up nearly a dozen suspected drug dealers this

Commerical trash haulers may face competition from Roanoke's local resource
City Council originally rejected the idea, but yesterday members decided to
bring it up for another vote.
The Roanoke County supervisors have already endorsed the proposal, and city
council is expected to reconsider its decision in two weeks.
The Resource Authority says it may need the new business to insure an
adequate flow of trash to the Smith Gap Landfill, but commercial haulers have
raised vocal opposition.
Lynchburg police say the theft of four canisters of nitrous oxide commonly
known as "laughing gas" is really NO laughing matter.
Someone broke into a storage area at Lynchburg General Hospital over the
weekend and removed the tanks. Each tank weighed about 200 pounds.
Authorities say the "laughing gas" can be DEADLY if inhaled in large
The canisters may also explode if they are dropped.
Anyone with information about the theft should call the Lynchburg police.
Tropical storm Josephine made its way across Florida's western coast,
forcing people to take shelter, flooding the roads, and spawning tornadoes
across the sunshine state.
The tropical storm made landfall just after midnight and caused heavy
damage in Taylor County. Emergency operations there say flooding in some
neighborhoods was 9 feet deep.
Nine tornadoes were reported around the state.
