Powell's attorney told the jury his client would never have pulled the trigger if he hadn't feared for his life.

Commonwealth's attorney John Greenbacker says revenge was the motive.
The two apparently belonged to rival gangs.
Powell was a member of the Halifax County football team that won the state title in 1991.
