Northbound lanes on Interstate 81 in Ronoake County have been reopened. The lanes between the 5-81 on and off ramps were closed overnight due to a tractor trailer accident.

The tractor trailer apparently hit the side of a bridge.
The front wheel of the cab was knocked into the tank, releasing diesel fuel all over the interstate.
Traffic was being detoured onto 5-81 southbound, exiting on Peters Creek Road.
Police then had motorists getting back on the highway northbound from Peters Creek Road
The interstate was re-opened around three this morning.

For nearly 24- hours, a portion of Interstate 81 in Augusta County was closed off.
Work crews were trying to repair a large gap in one of the southbound lanes.
It's still not fixed, but this morning, V-DOT is letting one lane of traffic through.
And as Scott Prince reports, it was no joy ride for commuters yesterday.

((Motorists on the southbound side of Interstate 81 had a "sinking" suspicion something was wrong-- and they were right.
There was definitely a "hole" lot of trouble on the highway.
The culprit, a massive sinkhole-- 35 feet deep and 75 feet wide at the 209 mile marker in Rockbridge County.
It forced VDOT to close off more than 15 miles of the Federal four- lane... causing an hour- long back up on the interstate and a detour on to Route 11.
Needless to say, frustration levels were running high.
