And Jeff Jones and the Cavaliers basketball players look to the future as
they try to put a stormy off season in the past as practice opens tomorrow.
For the second straight year the Taco Bell 300, Late Model Stock racing's
richest race, has been shamed by a cheating race team.
Last year Elliott Sadler was stripped of his trophy and first place check
when NASCAR inspectors discovered during a post race inspection that the team
had illegally angled the cylinder heads in the engine.
Yesterday the crime was the same, but the culprit was North Carolina's Jay
Fogleman. NASCAR stripped him of his $30 thousand dollars in winnings and
awarded the money to second place finisher B.A. Wilson.
Wilson started the final 100 laps of the race in the lead but had slipped
back to fourth on the final lap.
That was before race leader David Hyder was spun out in turn one by David
Wilson and Fogleman avoided the mess and made it across the line ahead of
Now just think if it hadn't been for that spin, Hyder would have won the race
and all of this controversy probably would have been avoided.
Don't bet on it!!
Earlier this Fall Hyder won at Wilkesboro but was then disqualified for
having an illegal engine and an illegal clutch.
This is normally media day for the Virginia Cavalier, but the only person
