An eight- BILLION- dollar deal between C-S-X and Conrail will create one of the largest transportation systems in the world.
The railroads say there WILL be job cuts.
But odds are the 275 "C-S-X" employees in Clifton Forge WON'T be affected, since C-S-X and Conrail don't overlap there.
First though, the deal still must be okayed by regulators AND rail competitors.

Police say a man who's already killed a five-year-old boy is holding is ex-girlfriend, their newborn baby, and his own teenage brother hostage.
He's said to be armed with a gun and a knife.
Two children were freed from the house this morning.
Members of a SWAT team are trying to talk to the man through a window of the home.

Jury selection began today in the trial of 28 year- old Ben Lilly.
Lilly is accused of CAPITAL murder, abduction, carjacking, robbery and five related firearms charges stemming from the death of a Virginia Tech student.

from the parking lot of a Blacksburg convenience store last December.
He was found shot to death in a remote section of Montgomery County.
The defendant's brother Mark Lilly, who's also charged in the crime is expected to testify against Ben.
A third defendant, Gary Barker may provide crucial state testimony as a condition of his earlier plea bargain.

A San Diego university is the setting the final round of the debates.
The candidates will be center stage and the gloves are coming off. That s because Bob Dole says, it's time to attack President Clinton's ethics.

The first time they met, folks gave both high marks for their civility, but most thought president clinton won.
But some polls show that Bill Clinton leads Bob Dole as many as 18-points, so this may be Mr. Dole's big chance to close the gap.

A father learned the hard way about leaving his kids alone in a running car.

Somehow, the kids put the car into gear, and sent it circling wildly in reverse.
The boy and girl were able to jump safely from the car-- which continued to spin out of control for more than an hour-- at one point, coming dangerously close to a power source.
Finally, after 90-harrowing minutes, the car blew a tire and came to a stop on a neighbor's lawn...without doing any serious damage.
