An autopsy reveals 90 year-old Annie Lester was beaten and stabbed
repeatedly across her body.

Her alleged attacker, James Reid of Christiansburg received a
court-appointed lawyer today to represent him on murder charges.
Police are awaiting forensics testing results to decide whether they'll also
charge him with rape.
On a request to search Reid's home, Christiansburg investigator Barry
O'Rourke wrote, evidence at the crime scene, as well as on Lester's body and
Reid's clothing are consistent with a sexual assault.
Police seized a jacket with stains covering the front from Reids home.
They're testing it to determine whether the stains match the victim's
blood.

Police say the hostage situation began when the man allegedly killed the
woman's five year old son last night- and then kidnapped the woman and three
