Two of the largest railroads in the country have decided to join forces, and
odds are it will ultimately have some effect on our area.
C-S-X is buying Conrail for more than eight- BILLION- dollars.
The new freight company would rival the nation's largest rail lines in size.
For the past decade, there has been speculation that Conrail would merge
with NORFOLK SOUTHERN, the dominant railroad in southwest and central Virginia.

number of questions that remain about this deal.

deal could be a possibility.
N-S said this combination raises serious concerns, it will act aggressively
to protect the interests of the shipping public, and it does not rule out any

their school bus was struck by a car today.

The bus, carrying 56 Tomahawk Elementary school students had stopped to pick
up a passenger when it was rearended by a van.
Police say the driver of the van was blinded by the sun and could not see
the bus until it was too late.
Nine students were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital complaining
mostly of neck pain.
All nine were treated and released.
Police say the van driver will not be charged in the incident.
