The Governor said he did not discuss V-M-I's request for additional funding
today with Superintendent Josiah Bunting.
But he DID say he wants to help, and he believes the taxpayers would accept
SOME additional expense.
The Supreme Court ruled June 26th that V-M-I cannot continue to accept state
funds without opening its enrollment to women.
One of the ironies is: it will almost certainly cost the state more to
comply with the court order.

Schmitz is on trial on a murder charge in Amedure's death. The program, which
was played in court this afternoon, showed how Jones questioned Amedure about
his secret crush. He said he had had sexual fantasies about an acquaintance.
Schmitz was brought on stage, where he laughed and said to Amedure and friend
Donna Riley, You lied to me. Schmitz attorney said in court, that Schmitz was
acting out of depression, alcoholism and Grave's disease, a thyroid condition
that they argue can cause erratic, violent behaviors. If convicted of first

thousand dollars-- more than twice the amount of his challengers combined.

One way he's done it is through big money, fundraiser dinners... like this
one a few weeks ago at the Hotel Roanoke.
But on that night, his campaign suffered somewhat of a set back.
Goodlatte invited Sonny Bono-- the entertainer turned Congressman from
California.
During the dinner, Bono raised eyebrows when he said the U- S uses hit
squads to support the Haitian government... comments Bono couldn't back up.

Now that the Atlanta Braves are heading to the World Series, a Cobb County
restaurant is spilling the beans on the team's secret weapons.

It seems the Braves' drive to the series was fueled on biscuits, and not
just any biscuits... they have to be from, appropriately enough, "Mrs.
Winner's" restaurant.
Braves' manager Bobby Cox started getting the bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits
last year as the team made its charge through the playoffs and World Series.
According to the restaurant, when ever the team got its food, it won. When it
did not, it lost.
The cook says he knows what makes the biscuits special, but it's top secret.
