After wreaking havoc in Cuba, Hurricane Lili is now over water again-- and
forecasters warn it may grow stronger during the next 24 hours.

If all goes as planned, Lili will hit the Bahamas tomorrow-- after making
a mess in Havana.
But the Florida Keys are out of the woods, storm warnings have been lifted

The gusty winds and rain that came through our region earlier tonight have
left a trail of damage.
In the Lynchburg area there are a number of downed utility poles. At the
King's Island restaurant on Old Forest Road an empty trailer was turned on its
side by the force of the wind. A manager there was hit by flying glass and was
taken to the hospital. At least three cars and one home have been damaged by
fallen trees and other debris. Luckily though there have been no reports of
any other injuries.

And for that reason the judge kicks this juror off the O-J Simpson trial.
Edgar Allen was one of two blacks on the 12 person jury- ready to hear the
civil trial against Simpson.
Allen admitted he has a drinking problem- when talking with reporters

officers charged in the death of a black man.
Johnny Gammage was killed after he was pulled over by police while driving

The jury has spoken in the Commonwealth's case against a woman accused of
killing her two week old daughter.
A Roanoke Circuit Court jury convicted 28 year old Veronica Via of first
degree murder for fatally beating her daughter Jasmine last December.
Via is sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Jury deliberation took about two hours.

The closing of a Volvo- GM plant in Ohio stands to benefit its facility in
the New River Valley.
Volvo- GM says it will consolidate its truck assembly operations into its
Dublin manufacturing complex.
The Ohio plant that will close has nearly 500 employees.
Some will be offered jobs elsewhere with Volvo- GM.
But the company did NOT say anything about new hires at the Dublin plant.
About 200 people have been laid off there this year.
The move does promise to bring more production to the Dublin site.
They say they might want to make history as part of the rat line.
But today for the first time young women were on post at Virginia Military
Institute, getting a taste of what it might be like to be a cadet.
Two of them were among more than 50 high school seniors who showed up for an

The Roanoke Valley's first small business incubator has received some
national attention lately...now it's going international.
The project manager of a small business incubator in Hungary came to town to
tour the New Century Venture Center.

80- percent of the firms that have been launched in incubators are still in
business, a pretty strong success rate.
The New Century Venture Center just signed up its sixth tenant since opening
two- and- a- half- months ago.
Virginia Asset Financing will put its new Roanoke branch there.
The company helps small firms across the Commonwealth get funding to help
grow their businesses.
Fans of a popular store that has anchored Roanoke's historic downtown market
for the past decade will like the sound of this news.
Look for a better selection and more of it at "Books, Strings, and Things."
The assets of the store have been sold to a private investor from the area.
The increased inventory and being incorporated under a new legal name are
the only major changes.
The store will remain downtown, and the man who came up with the "Books,
Strings and Things" concept thirty years ago will remain in charge.

A research team led by two U-V-A scientists has identified a possible link
between a genetic defect and Parkinson's disease.
Scientists say the discovery gives them a place to focus on in developing
therapy for Parkinson's.
The illness attacks part of the nervous system, causing tremors and slowly
progressing to stiffen muscles and affect posture and balance.
It strikes more than a million people in the U.S.

Down at Victory Stadium tonight a key battle in the Roanoke Valley District
as the Patriots of Patrick Henry hosted Cave Spring.
