The storm ripped through at about 5:30.
Skies got dark and wind whipped up-
In Lynchburg this is what was left behind- Several trees snapped and toppled
The Worst damage is reported in the Old Forest Road area-
Police said Dandridge Drive is also partially blocked with fallen trees.
The wind was strong enough to knock over an eighteen wheeler tractor

Eight alternates will be selected beginning Monday.
Opening arguments in the civil case are scheduled for Wednesday.
They'll have to start over in the trial of two white police officers charged
with killing a black motorist in Pittsburgh.
Johhnny Gammage was killed when he was pulled over by police last October.
The judge declared a mistrial today because of improper testimony from a
The coroner demanded that one of the officers explain his actions.
The law does not require defendants to testify in their own defense.
The judge said the coroner's remarks were too serious to be ignored.
A new trial will begin in two months.
Veronica Via will spend the next 20 years behind bars.
A Roanoke Circuit Court jury convicted the 28-year old Roanoke woman of
first degree murder in the fatal beating of her two week old daughter Jasmine,
The jury deliberated for almost two hours before recommending the 20 year
sentence shortly before nine tonight.
Just as a new study is released showing links between smoking and cancer --
both Virginia Senate candidates say they believe smoking does cause cancer.
And in what was to be the final Senate debate today -- an agreement for
another debate was reached.

Governor George Allen has enacted a tax break for farmers that the General
Assembly and Congress authorized.
Effective retroactively to January 1995, farmers who employ migrant
agricultural workers will NO longer have to pay unemployment taxes on them.
That means those who have will get a refund.

of Senior Citizens.

Things in downtown Roanoke.

A big consolidation move by Volvo- GM will impact its plant in the New River
Valley...but the company is mum on if this will mean any new jobs just yet.
Volvo- GM will put all its truck assembly operations into its Dublin
It will close a similar plant in Ohio that has nearly 500 employees.
Some will be offered jobs elsewhere with Volvo- GM.
The move does promise to bring more production to the Dublin site.
Volvo- GM says Dublin survived the consolidation because it has greater
capacity to meet future demand for trucks.
Fans of a popular store that has anchored Roanoke's historic downtown market
for the past decade will like the sound of this news.
Look for a better selection and more of it at Books, Strings, and Things.
The assets of the store have been sold to a private investor from the area.
The increased inventory and being incorporated under a new legal name are
the only major changes.
The store will remain downtown, and the man who came up with the Books,
Strings and Things concept thirty years ago will remain in charge.
